Performance Tasks in Hiring: Enhancing Candidate Evaluation

When evaluating candidates for a position, it can be helpful to give them a performance task related to the role they are applying for. However, it may be a good idea to formulate a backup plan if obstacles arise during the hiring process. For instance, your performance task may involve an in-person presentation and discussion panel. A candidate may fall ill prior to the presentation, or face additional circumstances that prevent them from presenting in person. With this in mind, it can be helpful to have your backup plan ready. Perhaps you present the option for all candidates to present virtually, or offer to reschedule the in-person session. Above all, it is important to create a consistent mode of evaluation for each candidate.
