Succinct Interviewing Requires Preparation
Take, for example, the often asked first question, "Tell us about yourself,” or some variation thereof. Candidates generally fall into two buckets. One group goes back as far as possible — sometimes to their first job after college — narrating chronological stories in laborious detail. Another group plans ahead by identifying a career inflection point, and then offers a pithy story centered on that moment to briefly acknowledge past work but primarily describe an upward and exciting trajectory leading to this particular job application. Which group do you think most often moves on to the next round?
