Consistent and Intentional Candidate Screening Takes Preparation

Similarly, developing at least three or four key indicators prior to interviewing candidates can help a hiring committee evaluate early applicants in a consistent fashion. From there, we recommend turning those key indicators into specific questions that all screeners would utilize. In parallel, it is perfectly acceptable — and even advisable — that early on, screening calls explore topics specific to each candidate. But with a consistent set of metrics in hand, committee discussions and decisions will be less rancorous, more intentional, and ultimately more equitable for all involved.
